On September 9, 1942, a protest was taking place in Navsari against British rule. Thousands of Indians took to the streets holding the national flag and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Inquilab Zindabad.”

Suddenly, British police opened fire on the protesters to suppress the movement. People started running in fear, but Shirish Kumar did not back down. Instead, he marched forward, holding the national flag high, and fearlessly confronted the British police.

“If we want freedom, we must abandon fear!” – These were his last words.

The police ruthlessly fired bullets, and three bullets hit Shirish Kumar in the chest. He fell to the ground, but he never let go of the tricolor flag! This act of bravery enraged the people even more, fueling the independence movement further.
