Guru Purnima: Celebrating the Timeless Guru Tradition of Bharat

10/07/2025 By Dhai Se Padhai

In the sacred land of Bharat (India), there exists a divine tradition that sets this culture apart from the rest of the world — the Guru Parampara. It is here that even Gods had Gurus — Lord Rama had Guru Vashishtha, Krishna had Guru Sandipani, and Hanuman was a devoted disciple of Surya Dev. This unique reverence for the Guru — the one who dispels darkness (gu = darkness, ru = remover) — is deeply woven into the soul of Indian civilization.

Guru Purnima, also called Vyas Purnima, is not just a festival — it’s a moment of spiritual reflection and gratitude. Celebrated in honor of Sage Veda Vyasa, the Adi Guru who compiled the Vedas and established the Guru-Shishya tradition, this day reminds us of the eternal bond between a seeker and their spiritual guide.

Unlike anywhere else in the world, where teachers are respected, in India, the Guru is revered above even God. Why? Because the Guru is the one who shows the path to God, holds our hand through lifetimes, and bestows grace that transforms a seeker into a soul awakened.

On Thursday, 10th July 2025, as we observe Guru Purnima, let us pause and bow with folded hands — not just to the Guru in form, but also to the Guru Tattva (principle), the divine energy of guidance that leads us from ignorance to liberation.

We may never be able to repay the Guru’s debt, but we can offer something priceless — our sincere gratitude and a commitment to walk the path shown to us.

Let’s celebrate this day with devotion, humility, and pride in our timeless Sanskruti.
